Andy Hinds at AllMusic gave ''Greg Howe'' 4 stars out of 5, describing it as "fresh compared to the melodramatic work of peers like, say, Vinnie Moore" and "a high-octane, indulgent rock romp. Worth hearing." He also listed "Kick It All Over" and "The Pepper Shake" as highlights.〔 In a 2009 article by ''Guitar World'' magazine, the album was ranked 10th on the all-time top 10 list of shred albums.〔''Guitar World'' Staff (2009-07-09). ("Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time" ). ''Guitar World''. Future US. Archived from (the original ) on 2011-05-28. Retrieved 2014-03-04.〕 As of 2006 it remains Howe's best-selling release.〔
